Harvey accepted the offer of associate at Pearson Hardman with the condition that he could bring Donna with him, and her salary was subsequently paid by him until he made partner. Donna is willing to do anything to protect Harvey and vice versa, even when it affects their personal lives. It is later revealed that Donna had been romantically pursued by Harvey when they first met, but she turned him down, citing a personal rule against dating coworkers.
