August 6, 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Three days later, another American B-29 dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This is the only time nuclear weapons have been used in warfare. The casualties and stakes were massive from the bombings. In August, 2020, on the 75th anniversary of the bombings, HISTORY will air on channels all over the world a gripping account of this chapter of history, drawn from 20+ hours of declassified U.S. and Japanese archival. This film will explore, in the words of those who lived it, the ramp up to the bombing missions, the bombings, and the aftermath, from the perspective of Americans and Japanese who lived it. Similiar to Peter Jackson's "They Shall Not Grow Old", there is light or spare narration throughout the film, and the story is driven mostly by audio interviews of survivors and participants.
